Knight Foundation provides local grants through the Knight Communities Program to improve the quality of life in the foundation's 26 communities, including Columbia and Myrtle Beach. Grants are not less than $20,000 and can reach $2 million. They typically last three to five years. The main requirements are that grants be collaborative and multi-year. The Knight Foundation is very interested in tracking progress, and thus proposals must exhibit sustainability in order to be considered. While the type of program to be funded has not been established in Columbia, the Myrtle Beach community has decided to focus on two program priorities: (1) improved school readiness and (2) improved civic engagement. Inquiries can be made to Alfredo Cruz at 305-908-2621 or at cruz@knightfdn.org. He is very interested in hearing about examples of promising local projects and strong organizations capable of working toward Knight's priority outcomes. | |
